Creative Photography Workshops - Jenny Giles Photography

Creative Photography Workshops

Do you love portrait photography and want to push your skills?

Are you looking to create images that will wow and amaze?

Are you sick of creating the same old photos and want more?

Have you got a creative side or want to learn from someone who does?

Would you love to explore South Wales with a group of like minded friendly photographers?

Does Photoshop or Lightroom baffle you?

If any of this sounds like you, then I am delighted to announce we are running a two day creative photography workshop on 17th and 18th July 2018.

I am a huge believer that photography can be shared and loved by all. We are all unique, we all see things differently, we all have different ideas, why don’t we work together and share our love of this wonderful and diverse art.

The first day on the course will cover the things you need to think about before a session, such as location scouting, getting inspiration and tips for outfits, what to do if the weather changes and general planning prior to the shoot.

We will visit a variety of locations throughout South Wales including a few of my favourite spots.

There will be models at each location in different attire and fitting different themes. We will work with child and adult models for this event, as I want to give you the opportunity to create a full portfolio of images.

It will be a full day of shooting so we will stop for a picnic lunch which we will provide, then continue on afterwards until the late evening, making the most of golden hour and stopping for tea on our return.

The second day we will go through our images from day one and I will teach my editing workflow.

I use a mix of Lightroom and Photoshop, so you can bring your laptop complete with software and follow along, however all edits will be recorded and sent on after the workshop, so you have them to watch time and time again.

We will cover basic image enhancing, how I work with lightroom and photoshop including culling images.

Working with presets to enhance your photos, how to create your own effects and basic tweeks to make an image pop.

I will also show you advanced editing techniques and compositing in photoshop as I love to create images that otherwise wouldn’t be possible.

This event will be limited to a maximum of 15 photographers, so we can ensure everyone will have the space and opportunity to capture the images they deserve.

Below we recommend a few local hotels for anyone traveling a distance. These will be booked by you the photographer and are not included in the workshop cost.

We will provide lunch for both days as well as dinner on day one. Transport between locations on day one will also be included.

Day two will be located at our Pontypool Studio and you are required to make your own way there. We can of course try and recommend car shares and taxi shares if anyone is not driving.

I am so excited for this workshop and I know it will be an amazing and inspiring few days.

I can’t wait to share it with you all. Jen x

. . . . . . . . . . .

Day 1 - Tuesday 17th July 2018

9.30am - Meet at Jenny Giles Photography studio.

The address is 25 George Street, Pontypool, NP4 6BZ. Meet and greet, tea’s and coffee’s and discussing the plan for the day.

10.30am - Bus to collect us all and leave for first location.

11.00am until 2.00pm - Shooting at location one.

This location has been selected because of its magical and breathtaking scenery. It is a hidden gem that will provide us with a diverse backdrop including water, forests, cliffs and rocks.

We will have a range of models from children to adults, male to female. We are hoping to provide a few animals to be a part of our shoot too, TBC.

I will explain the inspiration behind each setting and outfit choice. You will have the opportunity to work with the models in smaller groups. I will be on hand to answer any questions and offer guidance if needed.

I find this location so inspiring and we can discuss not only how to work with models young or old, but how to work with natural light and surroundings and how to think even further on, by looking out for image compositing possibilities.

We will have a picnic lunch made up and brought with us, including some light refreshments. You are welcome to stop at any point for this.

2.00pm - Leaving location one and traveling to our second destination.

We will stop at the services on the way for a toilet break if needed. This traveling time can be spent having lunch if you haven’t had a chance to eat yet.

3.30pm (ish) - Arrive at location two.

Here the surrounding areas are a mixture of land and sea complete with stepping stones, castle ruins and sand dunes. We have hired a horse that will be part of our images as I love going the extra step during a shoot, and using real animals is a great way to do that.

6.30pm - Move on to our final location and capture some amazing images at golden hour.

This location is part of the coastline and its beautiful coastal walks will be perfectly captured as the sun sets and day comes to an end.

With the low light, our images will take a different look and I aim to create some dark and mystical shots.

We will also visit another castle ruin and I can demonstrate how I have shot and later created, a few of my most popular composite images. I will be encouraging you to challenge my creations and think about what you can imagine up using the same base image and location.

8.30pm/9.00pm - Finish up and head to a local pub for dinner.

We will provide £20 per person towards your evening meal. Afterwards we will head back to the studio in Pontypool where you can go your separate ways for the evening back to your hotels and accomodation.

Day 2 - Wednesday 18th July 2018

10am - Meet at the studio.

Catching up on yesterday's event over a cuppa and a biscuit.

10.45 - TBC

We are hoping to visit a local area to get one final location in, but currently are waiting to hear back with regards to permissions. If we can’t attend then we will simply have longer to go through our images from the previous day and implement and practice my chosen workflow to see if it suits, as outlined below.

12.30pm - 1.30pm - Lunch

Truly Scrumptious, our local cafe, serves the most delicious home cooked meals and it’s my pleasure to include one of their famous buffets for lunch. Please be sure to tell us of any dietary requirements you have.

You can check out Truly Scrumptious here.

1.30pm - 5pm - Editing workshop.

We will transform the top floor of our studio into a conference room and provide chairs and tables. I will show you my workflow, how I cull my images, the software I use as well as my favourite presets and actions on a projector so all can follow along. We will cover creating your own effects, how to composite your images and stock images to create surreal and inventive digital art and I can offer my guidance on your own editing should you require it.

. . . . . . . . . . .

I have been practicing photography for over 10 years. During this time I have made a lot of mistakes, I have tried different techniques and failed, I started my business 6 years ago with an amature DSLR, and barely knew how to use it fully.

But I never gave up.

I have immersed myself in my love of it. I have found new and creative ways to express myself and I have built up my shooting and editing skills with nothing but time and practice.

So many people want to copy what others do, and no photography idea is a new idea, but what I look forward to teaching in this course is how to find your own joy and style, even if it is inspired by me or others.

I don’t want people to get hung up on being better or worse than one another. We are all learning and always will be. We have to support each other and not be afraid to share our passion and creativity.

There are so many different ways to the same thing in this art, and I am simply showing you what works for me. I look forward to learning along the way as much as you.

I can’t wait to share this workshop with my people. Creative photographers, new and old!

The cost of this creative photography workshop is £425 and this includes all that is outlined above.

This can be paid in full and doing so will ensure your spot on the course. We are unable to issue refunds, but if for some reason you are unable to attend, your spot can be transferred to someone else and they can provide you with the cost of what you paid.

Payment plans are available and can be discussed and arranged when you book. These are interest free and taken via direct debit for a select amount of payments agreed upon by both parties.

. . . . . . . . . . .

I have been in your position reading and re-reading what is included in amazing courses and wondering if I should take the leap and invest in myself…… I will just say that I did it, and it was one of the best experiences in my life and I don’t think I would be where I am today if I didn’t treat myself, and continue to invest in me and my art.

Any questions or to discuss payment options, please give us a call on 01495 616127, or alternatively send us an email via our ‘Contact Us’ form at the top of this page.
